It is nearly time. Aria has been dreading this moment since her sons began working at the company. Well, actually since her sons had been born, because she had anticipated this moment coming as soon as she had given birth to her boys. They are ambitious, but sometimes their ambition becomes too much. It turns into greed. That was what Aria was afraid of when she brought them into this world, and that worry still haunts her this very moment.
Twenty five years ago, three boys were brought onto this earth: Bryan, Victor, and Shane. Bryan is a natural leader, which sometimes causes him to be unreceptive. Victor is a troublemaker but also has a heart of gold. Shane is passionate with a fiery and impulsive nature. Despite being so different, as they grew older all three sons have sought the same goal: to take over their mother’s company. And now the moment has come.
Aria has decided to step down as her company’s CEO and choose her successor. The problem? None of her sons have proved themselves fit for the role. And they knew it. After convening Victor and Shane, Bryan and his brothers decided that they would have to kill their mother if they wanted CEO. Without a public decision on her successor, the company would have no choice but to pass it down to her sons. They figured it was better to have control over one of them becoming CEO than risking the chance of their mother not choosing any one of them.
Deep down Aria knew something like this would happen, even though she did not want to believe it. Her sons’ ambition and greed led to her being on her guard, especially after she made her announcement. When she woke up in a hospital room, all she felt was resignation. And pain. She had been shot, but the doctors told her that the bullet just missed an artery. She was lucky to be here. She had anticipated something like this happening to her, but she had not thought she would survive. Before announcing her decision to step down, Aria confided in her three most trusted employees about what she thought her sons capable of. She saw herself in each of these women, so she knew they would avenge her no matter what. What she had not expected was to still be on this earth after her sons made their move. She did not think she would be able to make her request, but life is full of surprises. She summoned the three women to her hospital room and told them of her request. Each of these women must gain the trust and love of her three sons. They must marry them. Then, they must exact revenge.

Author's Note: This story is a modern interpretation of the myth about Adya and her sons, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The myth tells the story of how Adya wanted to unite with her sons, but Brahma refused and Shiva burned her to get her out of the way. Her ashes then became the Tridevi, the wives of the Trimurti, as well as other goddesses. I wanted to create a modern twist on this story, which was very difficult to do while still maintaining the underlying themes of the original myth. The first inspiration that came to mind was the series Dynasty and how fortune often trumps family, and I liked that idea for this story. Every video in "Gaia's Secret" centered around male perspective towards women and how the patriarchy unjustly treats women, so I wanted that to be a focal theme in my story. At the same time, I wanted my female character to be strong and capable. So, I ended my story on somewhat of a cliffhanger that gives my female character the upper hand.

ReplyDeleteI'm here from the Myth & Folklore class but I wanted to peruse the Indian epics, and your tale made me glad I did! Pretty impressive how much drama you were able to spin up in less than 500 words. I think it's safe to assume that the sons shot her? This reminds me of a Blacklist episode where an inconspicuous daughter masterminds a takeover of her father's company. The family were devout Muslims and it turned out that the daughter had sexual reassignment surgery when she was younger because her father found out she was gay and this was her revenge plot to kill him and take his business!
